Snow from Santiago

No car? Still skiing.

Three resorts within about ninety minutes of Santiago, transport leaving from the metro, and an honest total for the whole day. No gear, no clothes and no clue is also a valid starting point.

Four questions and we tell you where to go, what it costs and what to book. Prices checked on 10 August 2026.

What do you want to do?
What's your level?
What do you need?
  • The helmet is not in the «full set» At all three the helmet is a separate line: 13.000 to 16.500. The full set means skis or board, boots and poles.
  • The resorts do not rent clothing None of the three rents a jacket or trousers. If you have none, you rent it down in Santiago before going up.
  • The clothing has to be tried on in the shop They do not hand it over without fitting it. Collect it the afternoon before from 14:00: 07:00 on a Saturday is not enough time, least of all for a group.
How do you want to do it?
Which day?
  • The ticket is not refunded if the weather turns The resorts' tickets state plainly that there is no refund and no postponement. The weather risk is yours.
  • Each date has limited stock The calendars show how many places are left per day, and the price moves with demand. The weekend you want can sell out.
  • The price climbs as the date approaches In a single night we watched two near dates rise by 4.000 each. The tariff is dynamic: waiting does not make it cheaper.
  • The three seasons do not end together El Colorado stops selling after 20 September. La Parva and Valle Nevado keep selling into October, ever cheaper.

What goes wrong when booking

  • Buying at the counter on the day is the most expensive mistake El Colorado charges 75.000 at the counter on a weekend and sells that same Saturday for 60.000 on its site. That is 15.000 for not booking ahead.
  • You need a physical card, and it does not come with the ticket All three resorts charge 6.000 for a rechargeable card on top of the ticket. It is a one-off and lasts, but nobody expects it.
  • Do not load two tickets onto the same card Valle Nevado warns that loading more than one ticket at a time blocks the card. Recharge the next one when you are about to use it.
  • El Colorado's beginner pack is weekdays only The 107.000 «Ski Day» bundling class, gear and ticket is low season. It does not apply on a Saturday: you assemble it piece by piece.
  • With a lesson the day costs less than without one At El Colorado, booking a class drops the ticket to 26.000 and the gear to 30.000. Together that comes in under going alone at full ticket and full gear.
  • The ticket is not refunded if the weather turns The resorts' tickets state plainly that there is no refund and no postponement. The weather risk is yours.
  • The transport policy contradicts itself on its own site Their FAQ promises a full refund if the resort closes; the product terms say there are no refunds. What is actually in writing is changing the date or transferring it. Confirm before paying.
  • You do not pick a date when you buy the transport No date selector appears anywhere in the purchase flow: what you buy behaves like a voucher. Agree the day with them before assuming a given Saturday.
  • Only a small backpack fits in the van One ski set per person plus a 40×30×20 cm bag, up to 8 kg. A normal suitcase costs 30.000 extra.
  • Each date has limited stock The calendars show how many places are left per day, and the price moves with demand. The weekend you want can sell out.
  • The clothing has to be tried on in the shop They do not hand it over without fitting it. Collect it the afternoon before from 14:00: 07:00 on a Saturday is not enough time, least of all for a group.
  • The beginner ticket is not the whole mountain It covers El Colorado Chico, Pingüino, Cururo and Zorros. Plenty for a first day, but it is not the full day ticket.
